Scholarships: CJJRF awards tuition scholarships to deserving student-athletes in the Metro-Atlanta and Metro-Detroit areas. Past scholars also receive book scholarships throughout their matriculation. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership on and off the field, academic goals, and financial need.
Leadership Conference: Each year CJJRF Scholars have the opportunity to participate in Calvin’s signature “Scholars with a Mission” Leadership Conference. Here new and past scholarship recipients network and work with specialists to develop a wide-ranging set of skills, including; mentoring, goal setting, leadership development, financial planning, and healthy living.
Dr. Arica Johnson “STEM” Mini Grant: CJJRF awards financial support to K-12 teachers to enhance innovative instruction in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Recipients’ projects are evaluated on their potential benefit to enhance student achievement, project creativity and innovation, standards alignment, incorporation of research-based strategies, effective use of resources, and alignment with the vision and mission of CJJRF.
Mentorship and Pen Pal Program: The program is for our CJJRF Scholars and all at-risk youth involved in our programs. Children will be paired up with a mentor and pen pal in order to communicate educational needs and support their development into productive members of society.
Football Camps: This free camp targets rising 9th through 12th grade wide receiver athletes. Students experience a variety of sessions from experts in the field: 1) Scientific Thinking among Athletes; 2) Wide Receiver Skills with Calvin Johnson Jr.; 3) Keeping the Body Healthy and Hydrated; and 4) Conditioning the Body Appropriately.
Support for the Needy: The Foundation provides the community an opportunity to sponsor gifts for deserving children of incarcerated and/or homeless mothers living transition and refuge centers in Atlanta, GA. These youth are afforded the opportunity to have a festive meal and quality time with their families during the annual holiday celebration program. CJJRF also partners with Fountain of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Riverdale, GA in purchasing, preparing and distributing food baskets and personal care items to families in need throughout the year.
Community Support: CJJRF provides financial assistance to various community organizations, to include Metro Detroit, Metro Atlanta and Haiti on an international scale. These organizations that are dedicated to our mission of assisting youth “catch” their dreams.
Health Fair: This initiative will focus on health and wellness and offer valuable information and screening services. Various medical professionals will provide free sports physicals, dental cleanings, health assessments and education about important health issues.
L’anse Creuse Partnership School: CJJRF will partner with L-anse Creuse High School to provide 1) Athlete Focused Choice Sessions with Calvin; 2)Annual Football Camps; Dr. Arica Johnson “STEM” Athlete Tutorial Mini Grant; 3) Scholarships; and incentives based on the student’s performance on and off the field.
